Millstones and Mustard Seeds
Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost
October 5, 2025 8:00 am
Prayer
Lord, we come with the weight of sin placed upon our shoulders. It’s a burden that only You can carry. We ask You boldly for forgiveness. Increase our faith so that, in Your name, we might move mountains for Your glory. Amen
Meditation
With only a short glance at the world we live in we quickly identify that we live in a world filled with sin. Sin comes in various shapes and sizes that infest our entire lives. There’s no stopping the infestation because “All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23). Jesus reminds us through the words of St. Luke to “watch ourselves” because there is no one else to blame. Jesus takes it a step further when He reminds us that we are to be careful so that our sin doesn’t spread into the lives of others. It can be deadly, “like a millstone that is thrown into the heart of the sea.” (Luke 17:2)
Repentance and forgiveness in Jesus name takes faith that comes from belief. “If we have faith as small as a mustard seed” we can do big things. Faith does not preclude Christians from adversity and persecution. Temptations will come; believing saints will sin; yet repentant sinners will be forgiven. Satan will surely seek to undermine our faith, yet Christ Jesus in unrelenting mercy and forgiveness will guard us until the day of salvation. Faith arms believers with Christlike tenacity, equipping us to persevere in prayer and joy, continually confessing Jesus as the source of life and immortality.
