Anchored in Faith
Tenth Sunday after Pentecost
August 17, 2025 8:30 am
Prayer
Lord God, You alone are the Author and Perfecter of our Faith. Your Son endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of Your throne. We give thanks and praise for the gift of faith, which is so generously given to those who believe. Allow us to trust in Your anchoring promises of life, strength, and forgiveness. In the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
Meditation
“Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see” (Hebrews 11:1). The Bible comes alive through ordinary people living their lives in faith. Abel, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are more familiar, while names like Enoch, Rahab, Gideon, Barak, and Jephthah are not. Known or unknown, they all lived a life of faith which was anchored in the promise of God, encouraged and guided by the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Living by faith means that we trust our Heavenly Father’s promise so completely that we surrender our need for control and pray that His will be done in our lives and in the lives of others. Faith can not be acquired by skill or taken by force, but instead is graciously given from the hands of God to the hearts of those who believe the promise of those things not yet seen. Our anchor of faith is secure in Christ and is linked to us by the faith-filled men and women who have gone before us. May God find us faithful as we join with future generations, proclaiming Christ and Him crucified.
